Hair is a unique structure that covers the whole of our external bodies except for the soles of our feet and the palms of our hands. Every where else on our skin we find hair of different qualities, strengths and uses. We have evolved to what we are today by modification and development to become a self cleansing organism. Hair is a particular example of this fact. Hair growing at an extremely fast rate, indeed one of the fastest growing cells in the body, creates a capillary path for waste materials to leave the body as sweat, and in so doing creates a cooling system to help maintain the constant body temperature. Dust and skin debris is also sloughed off in the same process. So that we function as a self cleaning creature, that only needs a little help to clean off external materials many of which are generally related to modern lifestyles. |
